CHARLESTON, WV – West Virginia residents are bracing for severe weather this weekend, including thunderstorms and the possibility of flooding in many areas.
According to the National Weather Service, a series of storms are expected to bring heavy rain, damaging winds, and hail beginning Friday night and lasting through Saturday.
The middle Ohio Valley and northern West Virginia, including the Huntington tri-state area, will face the greatest risk of severe weather on Saturday and Saturday night.
In addition to the storms, a flood watch is in effect for these areas, and some have already received up to 2 inches of rain.
Forecasts indicate that another 2 to 4 inches of rain could fall by Sunday morning, exacerbating flood risks.
A slight risk of excessive rainfall will also affect Huntington and Tug Fork tonight, with the risk spreading to other areas over the weekend.
Residents should keep an eye out for weather alerts and prepare for possible flooding, according to authorities.
The National Weather Service also recommends having multiple ways to receive alerts and a plan in place if severe weather strikes.
Stay tuned for local weather updates, as conditions may change quickly over the weekend.
