CAMBRIDGE , Ohio — Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers in Guernsey County seized 700 pounds of cannabis stashed in a U-Haul and charged the driver, a Bronx man, with felony drug possession.
According to the patrol, the incident occurred on Interstate 70 near milepost 186 on January 24.
The trooper pulled over the U-Haul for suspected distracted driving because the box truck was riding on the shoulder, according to dashboard and body-worn camera footage provided by the patrol.
A K-9 officer dispatched to the scene discovered drugs in the vehicle. During the search, troopers discovered plastic totes stacked inside the truck that were filled with cannabis.
According to the patrol, Ivan Fortunato, 33, a U-Haul driver from the Bronx, New York, was arrested for drug possession and trafficking.
The street value of the seized cannabis was estimated to be $3.5 million.
