It is now possible for one more state to deliver D-SNAP. This time, it’s Virginia and all of its disaster zones that Hurricane Helene hit. Virginians’ plans have been thrown off by this tropical storm.
So, the USDA should help all the families who need money to buy food and keep them from going hungry. Additionally, keep in mind that the USDA thinks that 22,858 households can use this aid money to buy food. In total, about 9 counties are being hit.
Who is eligible for D-SNAP? When is the deadline?
A lot of people in Virginia don’t qualify for Food Stamps, but they do qualify for Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits. Of course, there are certain requirements to meet.
The USDA has set limits on disaster-related expenses and income that can be claimed. South Carolina, North Carolina, Florida, and Georgia are some of the other states that have recently become eligible for D-SNAP.
People who live in affected areas of Virginia will be able to get in-person D-SNAP help after applying until November 22, 2024.
Which are the eligible counties in Virginia to get D-SNAP?
These are what the USDA says they are:
Some of them were Bland, Grayson, Washington, Smyth, Washington, Wythe, and Washington. Some people who apply and are approved will get help for one month. That’s right—it will be the full amount for a family like theirs on SNAP.
After that, this D-SNAP money could be used to buy food at stores that are approved by the government. There is a waiver in place that lets certain people buy hot meals that are ready to eat or hot meals to go in certain stores or restaurants.
Waivers have also been given for the ten-day reporting deadline for Food Stamps-bought food that you lost because of power outages. Remember that you won’t have to pay for hot foods until December 10, 2024. Use this money right away and don’t miss out on it.
