One of the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s programs, Historic Hotels of America, named two hotels in the Bay Area “America’s Most Haunted” of 2024. It’s that time of year again.
Don’t be fooled by the fancy 4-star hotel. People may love the Claremont Club & Spa in Berkeley for its fancy rooms and stunning views, but the 22-acre resort is also known for scary things that can’t be explained.
Historic Hotels of America says that guests at The Claremont Club have seen and heard ghostly things, like lifts and voices that don’t exist. In particular on the fourth floor, where guests have allegedly had very scary experiences. Visitors to Historic Hotels said they felt “extreme temperature changes in rooms” and found cold spots in their rooms.
Some say that a 6-year-old girl haunts the rooms. The story says the ghost is “peaceful,” but at night it will reach out and say “Hello” to people who come to the house.
The other hotel on the list of the most haunted is also very fancy. The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn & Spa is a 5-star lodge in Wine Country where many ghosts are said to have stayed for a long time.
The Historic Hotels of America said that people who have stayed at this hotel have said they don’t feel alone at night. “Guests heard doors slam and caught sight of something out of the corner of their eye or saw something run down the hall and around the corner,” the group says.
History Hotels said that The Round Room at The Fairmount might be the scariest hotel room in the whole state. People who stayed in The Round Room said they heard “unknown noises, flickering lights, shadowy figures, and running water,” according to the report.
According to Historic Hotels, the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego is another California hotel where guests may experience scary strange events.
