Since Saturday, November 16, Florida has launched a unique food assistance initiative aimed at neighborhoods severely devastated by recent disasters. The D-SNAP program (Disaster Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) has established service points in various counties to assist people and families that have experienced financial or material losses and are not currently getting food assistance under the standard SNAP program.
The Fasano Regional Hurricane Shelter on Denton Avenue in Pasco County serves as one of the key distribution centers. This project intends to provide much-needed food aid to people who are suffering to satisfy their basic necessities as a result of the hurricanes.
What is D-SNAP and who qualifies for it?
D-SNAP is a federal aid program designed for those who are not enrolled in the standard SNAP program but are experiencing unusual circumstances due to a disaster.
