CINCINNATI – A family in Cincinnati is trying to get people to stop Adrian Williams from getting release. Williams was found guilty of kidnapping and killing 3-year-old Jason Evers more than 40 years ago.
People in the Tri-State area and the Evers family will always remember the crime that happened on Father’s Day in 1982.
The day her brother was taken while they were playing in a Springfield Township park, Jason’s sister Amy Evers remembers it like it was yesterday.
Because of him, I’ll never have cousins and nephews. Because of him, I lost my mom and almost lost my dad. Evers said, “He destroyed my whole family.”
Amy, who was 6 years old at the time, said that Williams had earned their trust in the weeks before they were taken away.
She talked about how Williams offered to ride on his back, but she turned him down. Instead, she helped her brother get on Williams’ back.
“There was a trail that walked around, and he told me to walk the other way and meet him in the middle,” he said.
There was no sign of Jason ever again.
Williams called Jason’s dad, Bob, after 43 days of not knowing what was going on. He said Jason was still living and wanted a $10,000 ransom.
After setting up a cash drop, FBI agents quickly caught Williams after he got the money. Later, Jason’s body was found hidden under big rocks near the playground.
Williams was found guilty of manslaughter and kidnapping without consent and given a prison term of 14 to 50 years.
Amy and her family are getting people to write letters to the parole board to say no to Williams’ release because another hearing for parole is coming up.
“Fifty years is still too short, but it won’t bring my brother back no matter what.” “When I went to see him, he didn’t seem sorry,” Amy said.
