Devin Williams, a 26-year-old former Alameda County Sheriff’s Deputy, was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury in connection with the shooting deaths of Maria Tran and Benison Tran.
Prosecutors showed evidence that on September 7, 2022, Williams left work and went to the Trans family’s Dublin, California, home. The verdict was announced on October 3, 2024. He shot both victims to death with his service firearm, which was provided by the county.
The evidence shows that Williams was in a romantic connection with Maria Tran, who lived with Benison Tran and was his lawful spouse. An unarmed couple was the target of what was characterized as a home invasion attack.
District Attorney Pamela Price of Alameda County remarked, “I want to thank the jury for their diligent work in delivering this guilty verdict.” “We recognize this horrific tragedy leaves a son without his parents and a community forever traumatized.”
Williams might spend the next 50 years to life in state penitentiary. The date of sentencing is set for November 12, 2024, in Dublin’s East Bay County Hall of Justice, Department 708.
