Supplemental Security Income, or SSI, is money that people who are qualified for get from the federal government every November 1. It is true, and the next payment will be on November 1, 2024.
If the first of the month comes on a weekend or holiday, Social Security may not be able to send the SSI payment. In this case, it is usually sent the business day before. This is going to happen pretty soon.
SSI payment for December before the COLA increase
This month, people who get Supplemental Security Income will get more than one check. The November 1 payment is just one of them. Remember that you can’t send the December check or direct payment on December 1, 2024.
So, on November 29, 2024, the Social Security Administration set the SSI check for December. Because of this, there will be 2 different paychecks, one for November and one for December. Anyone who is eligible for both can get them.
Eligibility for SSI:
To get Supplemental Security Income you must have/be:
- A low income
- Little or no resources
- US citizenship or being a U.S. national (certain non-citizens may be eligible)
- Blind or
- A disability or
- At least 65 years old
Has the Social Security Administration scheduled a payment for SSI in December?
The January SSI payment will not be sent on January 1 because banks and SSA offices are closed. We had to set the January 1 payment for December 31, 2024, because today is a Federal Holiday.
So, people who get SSI will get the 2025 COLA raise in 2024. People can get an extra $276 a year from the COLA, which is about 23 dollars on top of the highest amount.
The last day to get Supplemental Security Income as a married couple is December 31, 2024. Three hundred fifty dollars more each month. These people can get an extra $420 over the course of a year. In other words, the COLA will help Americans with low incomes.
