The lucky person bought the ticket at the Cumberland Farms store in Southington, Connecticut. They almost won the jackpot, missing it by just one number. They did win $3 million, though, because they were able to match five balls and use the Megaplier on top of that.
It’s still possible for the lucky person to claim their prize, but only until 180 days after the draw. If they wait too long, they could lose the ticket or run into problems that make it impossible for them to claim it later.
There was no winner of the Mega Millions jackpot, so the prize rolled over to $361 million. This means that the next person who plays may be able to win even more, even if they don’t get the full amount of money.
On November 12, the next draw happened. The estimated cash option was $169.2 million, and all you had to do to play was put down $2. The game is set up so that prizes range from $2 to the jackpot amount.
This means that a lot of people can at least get their money back. The odds of winning the jackpot are 1 in 302.5 million, which is what keeps people playing. You can win other prizes from $4 to $1 million, but if you choose the Megaplier, you can make those prizes even bigger.
Changes to the Mega Millions lottery game
There have been changes made to the game to make it better for everyone, even though or maybe because of how popular it is. There haven’t been any of these changes yet; they will start to happen in April 2025. These are the cages:

- Odds will be improved for jackpot wins
- Larger jackpot starting points
- Jackpots will grow faster than before
- Tickets will include a built-in multiplier that automatically adds 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or even 10X for wins
- Matching all five white balls will now result in up to a $10 million win
- Wins will always be more than the cost of the ticket
- The cost of a ticket is increasing to $5
The head of the Mega Millions consortium, Joshua Johnston, told the Los Angeles Times that more billionaires will be made. “With that built-in multiplier, more millionaires will be made every week because more money will be sent out.”
A spokesperson for the lottery also told CNBC about the price hike and how they thought it would keep people from playing. “We also know that $5 is a popular price for other lottery games that can be played in most states, so there is hope for that.” Diane Bruno told WJW, a Fox affiliate, that the rise is a “good idea.”
