SNAP update: Which States have recently joined the SUN Bucks program for 2025? Check where to get EBT payments next summer

American people and families with low incomes get a monthly Food Stamp payment through SNAP benefits. You may run out of money, though, when your kids don’t get free meals at school because it’s summer. As a result, programs like SUN Bucks can give you an extra $120 to spend on food over the summer.

A lot of states signed up for SUN Bucks last summer and sent money to EBT cards. But some states had only just signed up and didn’t send any SUN Bucks at all. Many people who got SNAP could not get this extra money from SUN Buck in the summer of 2024. All of these states have joined the SUN Bucks program in the last few months.

States that were planning to participate in the SUN Bucks program, apart from SNAP

The following states did not take part in the Sun Bucks program last summer, even if they sent SNAP benefits, but have since joined:

  • Nevada,
  • Missouri,
  • New Hampshire,
  • Massachusetts,
  • Hawaii,
  • United States Virgin Islands
  • Puerto Rico
  • Louisiana

Remember that if your State has recently taken part in the SUN Bucks program, you should check if you qualify for this new benefit since it is compatible with SNAP payments.

States that do not participate in the SUN Bucks program even if they have SNAP benefits

Not all States offer the SUN Bucks program, here is the full list of States that do NOT have SUN Bucks:

  • Idaho
  • Wyoming
  • Utah
  • South Dakota
  • Iowa
  • Texas
  • Florida
  • Mississippi
  • Alabama

To give you some information, your kids can get SUN Bucks if they are school-age and your family gets SNAP benefits. That is, if you get TANF or FDPIR.

If your child goes to a school that offers the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program and your family makes enough money to qualify for free or low-cost meals, they do too.
