Sauce Recall Sparks Warning to Customers

A recall for hot pot sauce by Liaoning Cheng Da USA Inc. prompted a warning to customers in California on Tuesday.

Every year, millions of Americans develop food sensitivities or allergies. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) lists nine “major” food allergens in the United States: eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts, and peanuts.

Customers who purchased the recalled hot pot sauce and have peanut, wheat, soy, or sesame allergies may experience serious or potentially fatal reactions if they consume it.

What to Know

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated because the hot pot sauce could contain “undeclared peanut, soy, sesame, and wheat.”

The recalled product was distributed in California and sold at retail stores such as Hawaii Supermarket, Great Wall Supermarket, and 99 Ranch Market. The product’s brand name is Wangzhihe, and its hot pot sauce comes in a 5.64-ounce plastic container, according to the FDA.

The sauce comes in spicy and regular flavors, and lot numbers 2023/12/20, 2024/1/31, 2024/4/15, and 2024/10/18 can be found on the back of the recalled product. The hot pot sauce also bears the UPC numbers 6907592001375 and 6907592001382 on the front of the package.

According to the FDA alert, no illnesses were reported as of Tuesday in connection with the recall.

  • Difficulty breathing
  • Loss of consciousness

What Happens Next

Customers who purchased the recalled product should contact Liaoning Cheng Da USA Inc. at 626-285-2887 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. PT on weekdays.

According to the FDA alert, customers are asked to return the product to the original place of purchase for a refund.
