Residents of New York State Are Infuriated by the Change to Social Security

Social Security officials confirmed a change that will affect millions.

The way Social Security identity checks work will change next month.

Social Security Changes

The Social Security Administration confirmed that beginning April 1, you will not be able to confirm your identity over the phone.

“The updated measures will further safeguard Social Security records and benefits against fraudulent activity,” the SSA said in a press release.

Anyone wishing to make changes to their accounts must first verify their identity online through Social Security’s website or in person at a local Social Security office.

“Americans deserve to have their Social Security records protected with the utmost integrity and vigilance,” said Acting Commissioner of Social Security Dudek. “For far too long, the agency has relied on antiquated methods for proving identity. Social Security can better protect Americans while speeding up service.”

Officials say if you’re having trouble verifying your personal “my Social Security” account online, you’ll need to go in person. Starting April 1, no one will be able to verify their accounts.

Direct Deposit Changes

The SSA is also announcing updates to direct deposit change requests.

These change requests, both in person and online, used to take 30 days to be implemented; they will now be completed in one business day.

Many Angry And Concerned Over Changes

Many are concerned about these changes because the new rules will require some to visit a local Social Security office, however, Social Security offices are closing across the country.
