Michelle Bullett, 36, of Hartford, was arrested Tuesday night, Nov. 19, after several people called 911 to report an SUV swerving on I-91, Connecticut State Police said.
The calls came in around 8 p.m., when her silver Volvo SUV was seen swerving on the interstate near Exit 24 in Wethersfield. Police discovered her pulled over near Exit 21 in Cromwell after another driver positioned their vehicle ahead of hers to prevent her from continuing, troopers said.
Police discovered her on the highway shoulder, with the engine running. Three children, ages three, nine, and seventeen, were in the passenger seats, and none of them wore seatbelts, according to State Police.
A trooper noticed Bullett’s bloodshot eyes and the fact that she appeared intoxicated. While speaking with her, police discovered she was driving on a suspended license, in an unregistered and uninsured SUV with a license plate from another vehicle.
She failed a field sobriety test, and a breathalyzer confirmed her blood alcohol level was higher than the legal limit, police said. Bullett later admitted to drinking, the trooper observed.
The children were unharmed in the incident and were taken into custody by the Department of Children and Families, according to police.
Police have charged her with:
- Operating/parking an unregistered motor vehicle
- Misuse of a registration plate
- Driving without insurance
- Driving with a suspended license
- Illegal operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs
- OUI with child passenger (3 counts)
- Failure to maintain proper lane – limited access highway
She was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond, according to authorities.
