Police in New York City said a father of four was fatally shot and his girlfriend was 'badly battered' after confronting a stranger parked in their driveway

A Bronx father of four was killed down outside his own home early Sunday morning in a violent quarrel over a parking place, according to police and relatives. His girlfriend was allegedly “badly beaten” during the incident.

Trevor Hughes, 49, was shot shortly before 2 a.m. following a heated argument with 46-year-old ex-con Lavar Davis, whose car was allegedly blocking a driveway where the hardworking father paid to park near his Fowler Avenue home.

“It was all over the parking space,” Hughes’ brother told The Post on Monday. “He followed all of the proper procedures for removing a car from your driveway. A patrol car arrived, and all they needed to do was ticket the vehicle.

“Ticket the vehicle, have it towed, and that’s it. All he wanted to do was get inside and sleep for four hours before getting up to DJ for brunch.

Prosecutors claimed Monday that Davis left the crime scene but was apprehended at his girlfriend’s residence.

Brute accused of killing NYC dad with random knockout punch in 2017 charged with manslaughter, cops say.

“When police officers went to find the defendant there, he barricaded himself in the apartment and refused to come out voluntarily, requiring the police to send in the Emergency Services Unit to get him out,” Bronx Assistant District Attorney Lawrence Rozenblum said during Davis’ arraignment.

Davis had already been convicted of murder in Schenectady and served almost 24 years in state prison before being freed from the Attica Correctional Facility in 2019.

“He was also separately sentenced to an assault in the first degree and received a concurrent sentence of between 10 to 20 years, also out of Schenectady County,” Rozenblum reported.

The prosecutor said that the career criminal is on lifelong parole.

Judge Harold Bahr ordered Davis to be jailed without bail.

Hughes, who was also a grandfather, worked as a DJ and a locksmith while also serving as a local handyman, according to his brother and neighbors.

Teen tragically murdered outside NYC afterparty was a future Navy recruit with a ‘promising future’.

They said he returned home from a show to find a car parked in the place he had paid a neighbor to use, presuming it belonged to a patron from the notorious Absolutto nightclub around the corner.

Even the driveway gates were marked with “No Parking” signs.

Hughes’ brother, who begged not to be identified, claimed the victim walked to the club and reported the errant vehicle before waiting with his girlfriend.

When the owner returned to the car, they got into a heated argument—before things went tragic, according to neighbor Rose Marie, whose video camera filmed some of the confrontation.

“The person says, ‘What’s going on? You want to get it out? “I get [the gun] out for you,’ and then, boom, boom, boom,” she exclaimed.

“Right in front of his own house, above a parking space. And the cops arrived with an ambulance because they had beaten up the girlfriend. “They beat the hell out of her!”

Hughes was pronounced deceased at Jacobi Hospital.

Davis was detained Sunday evening and charged with second-degree murder, police said. His arraignment in Bronx Criminal Court was set for early Monday afternoon.

Hughes, according to his brother, was well-liked by his neighbors and “never said no to the community.”

“He helped anyone in the area that needed his help,” he informed me. “He always had a smile. “His thing was always to respect the community.”

Now, the bereaved sibling has expressed his grief.

“I’m empty,” he explained. “My life is empty.” My home is empty. “What do I do now?”

Hughes relocated to the Bronx when he was 18 years old, according to his brother, and had planned a family trip to his home Tortola in the Caribbean to mark his 50th birthday in November – plans that have already been cancelled.

“You know what’s going on in New York City, where working-class people are being murdered by criminals, and it’s unfair to the people who work,” he continued. “You know, I hope Trump will look at what’s going on in New York City and bring the death penalty here.

“This is a working-class community here,” he made clear. “Everyone here works, and the club around the corner has always been a concern. People here have consistently reported problems.

“The issue is, it’s more than just this. It is everywhere. It’s occurring everywhere, when you start hearing about all these pointless murders of innocent people, kids, and innocent children being slain.”

Meanwhile, Davis is due back in court on Friday.

Kenneth Kaufman, his lawyer, requested that he be sent to the hospital and did not request bail on Monday.
