Dawayland Hurst is thought to have killed Mary Jayne Collins to get back at her ex-boyfriend for killing her brother.
Police say that a 22-year-old guy killed a young mother to get back at the person who killed his half-brother.
As per a news release from the Seabrook Police Department, on Oct. 4, Mary Jayne Collins was found dead in her apartment after police and emergency workers went to the Teakwood Apartment Complex to investigate reports of a gunshot.
Two little kids who were not hurt were also in the flat when she was found. Around 11:30 a.m. that morning, the first rescuers got there.
The Harris County Medical Examiner’s Office did an autopsy on Collins and found that she died from a single stab wound and blunt force injuries. At first, people thought she had been shot and killed.
The police also found that Dawayland Hurst was in the flat when the murder happened. Police think he hit one of the kids before the police and fire department got to the flat.
Police told Law & Crime that they think Hurst killed Collins because he was linked to a murder that happened on July 31, 2020.
Diamond Triplett was the name of the man who was killed that day in Texas City. Michael King, who is 25 years old, was caught and found guilty of murder. ABC 13 says that Triplett is Hurst’s half-brother.
Detectives say that Hurst began dating Collins in June. Collins had been King’s lover before and was the mother of their child. Police aren’t sure if she knew that Hurst was connected to Triplett.
They said right away that Hurst was mean to Collins. She told her family that Hurst had bitten her in the face and showed her friends pictures of other wounds she said Hurst had caused.
A detective thought, “I think the defendant was driven to get revenge for the death of his brother Diajwan Triplett.” “So he became friends with, abused, and then killed the victim, who was Michael King’s child’s mother.”
