OHIO — Ford employees may face potential layoffs if the Trump administration halts financial support for electric vehicle production.
According to the New York Times, Ford has invested heavily in factories in several states, including Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, and Tennessee, to produce batteries and electric vehicles.
Ford CEO Jim Farley stated that if Republicans eliminate the funding provided by the Biden administration, which includes billions of dollars in subsidies and loans for these projects, many jobs may be jeopardized.
Ford is expected to announce plans to build a new all-electric SUV at its Lorain County, Ohio, plant in August 2024.
In 2022, the company invested $1.5 billion in its Avon Lake, Ohio, plant to create a new electric vehicle for commercial use.
Looking ahead, Ford intends to introduce two new all-electric pickup trucks by 2027: one will be a medium-sized truck designed by a specialized team in California, and the other will be a next-generation truck manufactured in Tennessee.
