No Social Security payment on December 3? Check the new paydays

On December 3, millions of retired Americans began getting their Social Security checks. You only got this payment, though, if you started getting retirement benefits before May 1997. What if you got them later but are now getting both Supplemental Security Income benefits and retirement benefits in the US?

Don’t forget that the Administration is going to send you three more payments. They don’t always happen on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday in December, but there is one time when they do.

Not all Social Security payments will be issued on Wednesdays in December

You belong to one of the groups that get Social Security payments on December 11, 18, and 24 if you didn’t qualify for the payment on December 3. You can see that there are only six days between the second and third payments.

This is because on December 25, the Social Security Administration never sends out checks. Because of this, the checks and direct deposits will be sent out on the business day before.

You will also need to meet the birthday requirement in order to get paid on either day. In this case, your payment will arrive on the 11th, 18th, or 24th if:

  • Dec. 11: born between the 1st and the 10th
  • Dec. 18: born between the 11th and the 20th
  • Dec. 24: born between the 21st and the 31st

How much will retirees receive from Social Security in December?

In December, retirees will get about $1,927 from the Agency. The SSA’s COLA Fact Sheets give us this number. If you don’t get a lot of money, it could be because you didn’t work for 35 years, filed at age 62, and your wages were low.

People who retired at age 62 can get up to $2,710. Of course, you had to have made a lot of money for at least 35 years and had jobs that were paid for by the government.

In December 2024, people aged 70 can get up to $4,873. You can get up to $3,822 if you filed when you were 66 years old. This year, the COLA for retirees will be given out on January 3, 8, 15, and 22.
