No, he is dead': According to investigators, an 81-year-old man shot his roommate with a shotgun after he made a harsh comment. He then calmly contacted 911

An 81-year-old man in Texas is accused of murdering his roommate with a shotgun after making a rude comment to him before calmly calling 911 to report what he did, telling the dispatcher “nah, he’s dead” when asked if the victim was still breathing, according to cops.

Douglas Ervin, of Richardson, a Dallas suburb, has been charged with murder in the death of 59-year-old Gregory Johnson at their home on the 1100 block of Wake Drive last Thursday, according to local police.

Ervin was arrested at his home without incident after calling 911 to report what had occurred. A shotgun was discovered at the scene, and police are still investigating what prompted Ervin to shoot Johnson with it. A third roommate was present when the shooting occurred, but was unharmed.

When officers arrived last Thursday night, they found Ervin outside and reportedly inquired about who else was inside the home. “The guy I shot and [the other roommate],” Ervin’s arrest affidavit states, according to local Fox affiliate KDFW.

Johnson was found dead outside a bedroom in the home, according to police. It is unclear whether the other roommate saw the shooting or not.

After being arrested, Ervin allegedly told police that he and Ervin were feuding, and Johnson made a rude remark to him while walking past Ervin’s bedroom, prompting him to grab the shotgun and begin shooting. He claimed Johnson was a bad roommate who frequently left the front door open and the lights turned on, according to KDFW.

Ervin allegedly admitted to police that Johnson was unarmed and did not approach him in a threatening manner.

According to online records, Ervin is being held in the Dallas County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
