The monthly checks that people who get Social Security benefits will get will go up by 2.5% in 2025. Analysts have predicted that this rise will happen, but it will be much smaller than the rises seen in the last couple of years.
This change shows that inflation has slowed down compared to previous years. In 2024, recipients saw a 3.2% rise in their benefits. This came after a big 8.7% rise in 2023, which was caused by inflation levels that had not been seen in over 40 years.
With the start of a new year, people who get Social Security can look forward to another round of payments. For many, these monthly payments from the Social Security Administration (SSA) are very important. The schedule changes depending on certain factors.
Understanding SSI Payment Schedule
The SSA sends you regular monthly payments on a schedule that is mostly based on when you were born. People who filed claims after May 1, 1997, will get their Social Security retirement, disability, and survivor benefits on the second, third, or fourth Wednesday of every month as a matter of course.
Payments for people who get Supplemental Security Income (SSI), which helps disabled people and older people who have little or no other income or resources, are usually made on the first of every month.
If the 1st falls on a holiday or the weekend, the payments are usually made the Monday before. Also, people who started getting benefits before May 1997 have a set date when they will be paid.
Social Security Payment Schedule for January 2025
Here is when beneficiaries can expect their monthly payments in January:
- SSA beneficiaries who started receiving benefits before May 1997: January 3
- Birthday between the 1st and 10th of the month: January 8 (Second Wednesday of the month)
- Birthday between the 11th and 20th of the month: January 15 (Third Wednesday of the month)
- Birthday between the 21st and 31st of the month: January 22 (Fourth Wednesday of the month)
The Social Security Administration says that this month’s SSI payment will be sent out on December 31, which is New Year’s Eve. This is because January 1 is a holiday.
