Many shoppers are angry and disappointed because Home Depot recently changed its return policy. After having trouble getting refunds, some customers are so angry that they are thinking about not shopping at the popular home improvement store at all.
One angry customer wrote on Reddit, “Well, Home Depot just lost a huge customer.” The angry customer then said they were going to stop shopping at Home Depot and told other customers to “beware” of the new rule.
Positive past experiences at Home Depot
This shopper talked about how they had good experiences with Home Depot in the past. Over the years, they had come to rely on the store to provide all of their necessary building materials for a wide range of projects, especially home renovations.
Aside from the return policy problem, other customers have also complained about other parts of their experiences at Home Depot. More and more customers are criticizing the company because they are unhappy with:
- Changes in customer service
- Product availability
- Price adjustments
As these worries grow, Home Depot is having a hard time keeping its reputation as the place to go for all your home improvement needs.
They were in a bit of a jam during a recent home remodel because they couldn’t find some important receipts. One of these was the receipt for a pair of Christmas lights they bought to make their house look more festive.

The Chaos of Remodeling
“As you can imagine, things get crazy during a remodel, and sometimes you lose your receipts,” they said, pointing out a problem that many people have during these kinds of projects.
The Troublesome Christmas Lights
When they opened the box of string Christmas lights, they saw that only half of them would light up. This was probably because of a problem with the wiring. They returned the lights to Home Depot less than two weeks after buying them in hopes of getting a quick fix.
Challenges with the Misplaced Receipt
The customer knew that things would be harder without the receipt, but they were willing to work with the situation. They were willing to take store credit instead of cash because they planned to use the money for future projects and showed their driver’s license to prove who they were.
Credit Denied
But their plans didn’t work out because Home Depot’s return policy was said to have changed. The shopper said, “The employee told me that my return was denied because their new policy limits the number of returns you can make without a receipt over the course of your lifetime.”
