According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, an elderly woman in Pajaro was allegedly beaten by a woman who was arrested last week for the same offense.
Someone in the 30 block of Florence Avenue in Pajaro heard what they believed to be a neighbor screaming next door on Wednesday at around 12:40 p.m. He went over to investigate and went into his 83-year-old neighbor’s home, where he allegedly saw a woman hitting her repeatedly in the head with a knife sharpener.
When deputies got to the house, they saw an older woman with a serious head injury. After being brought to the hospital, she needed surgery. According to the Sheriff’s Office, her status is presently stable.
After another individual was discovered inside the house, she was placed under arrest.
Schauntel Marina Gomez, 37, was taken into custody on charges of elder abuse, assault with a deadly weapon, and attempted murder. She lives in Milpitas. More than $1 million was given as her bail.
