Missouri and Kansas Freeze Alert: Sub-30° Temps Expected from Sunday Night Until 9 AM Monday

Kansas City, MO – A widespread freeze could threaten crops and outdoor infrastructure in eastern Kansas and central Missouri overnight Sunday into Monday, with temperatures expected to drop into the upper 20s.

The National Weather Service offices in Kansas City and St. Louis have issued a Freeze Watch from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Monday, April 7.

The advisory affects a large number of counties, including Miami and Linn in Kansas and Boone, Cole, Callaway, Lafayette, Pettis, Franklin, and several others in Missouri.

Low temperatures may fall between 28 and 29 degrees, endangering unprotected vegetation and outdoor plumbing.

Kansas City, Jefferson City, Columbia, Sedalia, and Moberly are among the most vulnerable areas, as early spring growth may have already begun.

As a precaution, residents should cover or bring in sensitive plants, as well as insulate outdoor faucets and exposed pipes.

While April freezes are not uncommon, the possibility of sustained sub-freezing temperatures raises the risk of agricultural loss. Gardeners and farmers should be aware of local conditions and plan accordingly.

This watch may be upgraded to a warning depending on overnight forecasts. For updates, visit weather.gov/eax or weather.gov/lsx.
