Man poses as a cop, handcuffs young person at Hamilton bus stop: Police

Police records show that the man handcuffed a 14-year-old boy and tried to get the boy into his car. He is now being charged with abduction and impersonating an officer.

Bradley Pyles, 36, talked to a 14-year-old at a Gateway Avenue bus stop on September 25. This is what the Hamilton Police Department wrote in their report.

The police report says Pyles pulled up next to the teen in a silver 2006 Chevy and handcuffed him.

A bus driver who saw what happened asked Pyles for his name and ID number.

Police say Pyles flashed a gold badge and said he was a security guard in Hamilton. He also gave the number 38 on the badge.

Aarika, the victim’s neighbor, saw the meeting and said that Pyles told the bus driver his name was Bradley Smith and that he would take the teen to school.

As Aarika put it, “He was scared.” “He told me he didn’t know what to do because he thought it was a fake police officer trying to take him hostage.”

Police say that after the fight with the bus driver, Pyles took the 14-year-old’s handcuffs off and went with Aarika.

The whole thing was caught on video by both the bus camera and people standing nearby.

The Fairfield City School District told parents and guardians about the incident in the following message on October 25:

We want to inform you about an incident that occurred this morning at a bus stop at the main entrance of the Tyler’s Creek apartment complex. It was reported that a 9th grade student was approached by an adult male who was impersonating a police officer/security guard and attempting to detain the student. The Hamilton Police Department quickly launched an investigation since the bus stop is within their jurisdiction. The suspect has been charged by the City of Hamilton Police Department.  While this incident was very serious in nature, the police department has assured us this was an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to the community.
