In connection to a collision that killed a 25-year-old man on the Clay Wade Bailey Bridge in 2023, a man has entered a guilty plea to vehicular homicide after waiving a planned jury trial.
Originally scheduled to face a jury on eight counts of vehicular manslaughter resulting from the December 7, 2023 collision that claimed the life of 25-year-old John Pinkerton, Keshaun Compton entered a guilty plea to one count of vehicular homicide, a first-degree misdemeanor Monday instead.
Court records state that Compton, driving a Honda Odyssey minivan northbound, tried to pass a slow-moving truck in the center lane of the bridge around 4 p.m.
A red X indicator above the lane forbidden northbound traffic entered at the time.
Police claim Compton’s car head-on collided with an Audi S4 driven by Pinkerton Pinkerton’s car was propelled onto the side barrier of the bridge by the collision close to the southbound lane.
After Pinkerton was freed from his car, first responders carried him to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he passed suddenly soon after arrival.
Two other crash participants suffered injuries but survived. Following the crash, Compton and a passenger in his car were likewise in stable condition and in hospitals.
Prosecutors were supposed to contend that Compton’s illegal use of the restricted lane was careless and directly caused the collision.
The guilty plea offers a maximum 180 days in jail. On February 13 Compton will be sentenced.
