Linda McMahon, a billionaire businesswoman in professional wrestling, is being nominated by President-elect Donald Trump to be secretary of the Education Department.
She will be in charge of an agency that Trump has promised to get rid of.
McMahon was in charge of the Small Business Administration during Trump’s first term, from 2017 to 2019. He also ran twice unsuccessfully as a Republican for the U.S. Senate in Connecticut.
Beginning in 2009, McMahon was on the Connecticut Board of Education for a year. He has also been on the board of trustees for Sacred Heart University in Connecticut for many years.
People who work in education don’t know much about her, but she has said she supports charter schools and school choice.
