Lakers vs. Hornets postponed: Latest news on NBA game affected by Los Angeles wildfires

The Los Angeles wildfires are affecting thousands across California, and the Lakers are no exception.

The Lakers’ return to California comes at the wrong time. After a two-game trip to Texas, the basketball club returns to find widespread wildfires in the area.

The Flames have called Thursday’s game against the Hornets into question.

Los Angeles began postponing sporting events on Wednesday, when the Kings vs. Flames NHL game was postponed due to the fires.

The NHL canceled the Wednesday night game due to the fires at Crypto.com Arena, which is located in the heart of Los Angeles. Both the Kings and the Lakers use the same facility.

Are the Lakers still scheduled to play Thursday? Here’s what you need to know about the game during the Los Angeles wildfires.

Is Lakers vs. Hornets playing today?

The Lakers vs. Hornets game on Thursday has been postponed, the NBA announced earlier in the day. It comes as a result of the devastating wildfires wiping through the state.

Why was Lakers vs. Hornets postponed?

Los Angeles was scheduled to host five consecutive games beginning on January 9 — but the Hornets game has already been canceled.

It’s unclear when the game will be remade or when Crypto.com Arena will relaunch. The Lakers will host two consecutive games against the Spurs on Saturday, January 11, and Monday, January 13.

JJ Redick, the Lakers’ head coach, revealed that his family was forced to evacuate the area due to the rampant flames.

“I just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in the Palisades right now,” Redick said ahead of the Lakers’ loss to the Mavericks. “That is where I live.”

“Our family, my wife’s family, and her twin sister have evacuated. I know many people are freaking out right now, including my family.

I know a lot of people are scared because of the wind [Tuesday night]. So I’d just like to acknowledge that. “Thoughts and prayers, and I hope everyone stays safe.”

Where are the California fires?

The California wildfires are burning in Los Angeles County. The most affected cities have been Los Angeles, Calabasas, Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Topanga Canyon.
