J.J. Redick is in his first season as head coach of the Lakers. This was his first NBA coaching job, and he has led Los Angeles to a 20-16 record, placing them sixth in the Western Conference standings.
As a newcomer to the franchise, Redick and his family were renting a house in Los Angeles — but Redick’s rental house was destroyed by the city’s rampant wildfires.
Redick and his family are all safe, but they have lost almost all of their belongings and are currently staying in a hotel while looking for a new place.
Here’s what Redick had to say about losing his rental home and the Los Angeles wildfires.

Redick’s rental home was in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Palisades fire is the largest in the city, consuming more than 15,000 acres of land.
The Lakers’ head coach spoke on Friday about how his wife assisted in getting his family out of their home before it burned down.
Redick went to the Palisades area after the fire and described it as “complete devastation.”
Redick confirmed that their rental home had been sold, stating that they had been renting to figure out where they wanted to live long term.
He discussed how everything they had accumulated over nearly 20 years of marriage and ten years of parenthood was gone.
Redick was very moving when he said, “There’s certain things you can’t replace, that will never be replaced.”
He describes how much of a sense of community he felt in the Palisades. Redick and his family want to help rebuild the community and the surrounding homes, he said.
He spoke highly of the recreation center that was destroyed by fire and the impact it had on him and his family in such a short period of time.
Redick concluded by stating that he and his family want to do everything they can to assist people who are “down and out because of this.”
Here’s Redick’s entire response to the wildfires and the loss of his rental home.
