As pumpkin carving season comes to an end, many people aren’t sure what to do with their carved pumpkins.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture says that every year more than a billion pounds of pumpkins are grown in the country. A lot of these pumpkins end up in landfills.
They break down into methane gas, which warms the air more quickly than carbon dioxide because it is a strong greenhouse gas.
Keep Columbus Beautiful is giving people a way to deal with this environmental problem.
From November 1, people in Columbus can take their pumpkins to two Waste & Reuse Convenience Centers to be composted.
