Reports say that former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler was arrested in Tennessee after a car accident on charges of DUI and having a gun without a permit.
TMZ said Cutler hit another car from behind in downtown Franklin on Thursday around 5 p.m. When police got to the scene on the 200 block of Bridge Street, they saw that the former football player’s words were jumbled and his eyes were red. A statement from Franklin Police says that they also said that his car had a “strong odor of alcohol.”
Police say that 41-year-old Cutler refused a field sobriety test and was then taken to a nearby hospital “where a blood sample was obtained through a blood search warrant.” Police are also said to have found “two firearms in his vehicle, including a loaded pistol.”
Cutler was taken to the Williamson County Jail on Thursday night, but a spokesman for the Franklin Police Department told TMZ that he was freed on a $5,000 bond. He is also being charged with failure to take due care to avoid a collision and implied consent, in addition to the DUI and gun charges.
Cutler was drafted to the NFL in 2006 and played 12 seasons with the Chicago Bears, the Miami Dolphins, and the Denver Broncos before retiring in 2017. He was married to television star Kristin Cavallari before they split up. After that, he got a job as a sportscaster at Fox Sports and now hosts the show “Uncut with Jay Cutler.”
They got married in 2013 and have three kids together: a son named Camden, 11, a son named Jaxon, 9, and a girl named Saylor, 8. They got a divorce in 2020, saying they had “irreconcilable differences” and “inappropriate marital conduct.”
