Clean Up Tips

Before the Cleanup

Invite your team!

  • Share information with neighbors, friends, family, etc. Two weeks’ notice is best.
  • Make sure everyone knows where to meet, time, and appropriate clothing to wear for your cleanup activity.

Day of the Cleanup

You’re ready to clean!

  • Have supplies ready: trash bags, trashcans, gloves, masks, vest.
  • Prepare waivers for volunteers to sign before everyone begins.
  • Take pictures of the site before you start to compare results!
  • Welcome volunteers and provide appropriate instructions for them to follow. Be clear about the boundaries of the area you are cleaning, and where to return the trash.
  • Go over safety protocol.  Separate trash and recycling by different bag colors.
  • Suggested safety precautions, including social distancing, wearing a face covering, and cleaning your hands often hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, should be practiced.
  • If you encounter littered PPE such as masks and gloves, use your own comfort level and common sense as a guide.

After the Cleanup

Share your efforts to encourage others to join!

  • Take pictures when everyone is done.
  • Report your results on the app and share the results on social media with the tag #Hamiltonrivers Tag us @hamiltonrivers.
  • Take the trash to the designated area identified.
  • Thank all the volunteers and invite them to next cleanup!

Clean, Safe, and Healthy Hamco

Residents, businesses, and the government all play a role in keeping Hamilton clean, safe, and healthy. Only by involving all residents and each community can we create a #TrashFreeHamco. Success begins with one neighbor and one community deciding to make a difference. Anyone can participate in the Hamco Helping Hands program – individuals, families, churches, businesses, schools, and other groups and organizations.

Adopting an area in Hamilton County has many benefits:

  • Improved quality of life in your neighborhood. The appearance of our community contributes to the quality of life we all share.
  • Signs with your group’s name letting people know you are committed to making a difference.
  • Meet your neighbors, strengthen your community connections, and build leadership skills. Become a role model to youth.
  • More active communities help discourage rodents and unwanted and illegal activity.
