The death of Corrye Brewer, a 97-year-old woman from Colorado, has been ruled a homicide by the El Paso County Coroner’s Office after her body was discovered in January 2025.
Brewer’s tragic death has raised serious questions about the involvement of a family member, as the coroner’s findings suggest that Brewer was intentionally abandoned in freezing temperatures, leading to her demise from hypothermia.
Missing and Found Dead in the Cold
Brewer was reported missing on January 25 after her family last saw her during a visit. The Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued a senior alert due to Brewer’s cognitive impairments, which made her more vulnerable, especially considering the harsh weather conditions.
Just two days later, her human remains were found near an intersection in Calhan, Colorado. Brewer’s family members were devastated by the discovery, and it was confirmed that the body found was hers.
Coroner’s Report: Hypothermia and Abandonment
On April 9, the El Paso County Coroner’s Office released its report, confirming that Brewer’s death was a homicide. According to the autopsy, Brewer died from hypothermia after being “intentionally left in the cold without any way to return home, get to adequate shelter, or call for help.”
The report revealed that Brewer had been abandoned at an unoccupied house by her daughter, leaving her without her walker or phone, making it impossible for her to seek help in the freezing conditions.
The coroner’s findings stated that the temperatures on the night of January 24, when Brewer was allegedly left at the house, were 16 degrees Fahrenheit with windy conditions and snow showers.
The body was found days later on the same property, raising suspicions about the circumstances surrounding her death.
Family Tensions and Investigation
Brewer’s family has been left grappling with both grief and confusion. Tensions have surfaced within the family, particularly with those who had been caring for Brewer at the time. Brewer’s granddaughter, Shari Robinson, spoke to KCNC, a local CBS affiliate, expressing the family’s desire for justice.
“We just want it brought out to the light,” Robinson said. “She is gone, and we hope that someone would take the time to provide answers for the family.”
Despite the coroner’s ruling, no one has been charged in Brewer’s death as of yet. KKTV reported that the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is still actively investigating the case, and it will soon be reviewed by the District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges should be filed.
Ongoing Investigation
As the investigation continues, the family of Corrye Brewer seeks clarity and accountability for her tragic death.
With the coroner’s report indicating foul play and the possibility that Brewer’s daughter was involved, authorities are working to gather all necessary evidence to determine who is responsible for this heart-wrenching act of cruelty.
