WEST CHESTER TOWNSHIP, Ohio — Google refers to the Voice of America Centre as the “Voice of Mexico Center.”
The West Chester shopping plaza is now known as the “Voice of Mexico Center” on Google and Google Maps.
The Google Help Center says there are only two ways a listing can be changed:
- The verified owner of the business profile can edit the information
- Google users can suggest an edit for a listing
Kelly Skeens of Midland Atlantic Properties, which owns the property, confirmed that the Voice of America Shopping Centre has not been renamed. She claims she contacted Google to have the listing changed to the correct name.
According to Google support, requests may take up to five business days to be reviewed.
“I suspect their Google account connected to that got hacked and they used that to change it or they requested the changes to it and somehow it got through the verification process,” according to Dave Hatter, a technology analyst.
The Google name change could be in response to President Donald Trump’s executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America.
Google Maps now identifies the body of water as the Gulf of America.
In Apple Maps, the shopping plaza is still listed as Voice of America Centre.
