A former US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) deportation officer was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison on Tuesday for using his position to coerce sex from vulnerable women under his supervision, according to the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio.

According to the office, Andrew Golobic, 53, of Cincinnati and Mason, used his position to violate the civil rights of a woman in the ICE Alternatives to Detention (ATD) program.

Golobic was found guilty of obstructing a sex trafficking investigation, deprivation of rights under color of law, witness tampering, and record destruction in a federal investigation, according to the US attorney’s office.

According to the US Attorney’s Office, ATD allows asylum seekers and other low-risk immigrants to remain in their communities while their immigration cases are pending.

According to the office, the jury determined that Golobic violated a woman’s right to bodily integrity by engaging in unwanted sexual activity while participating in the ATD program.

Golobic worked as an ICE deportation officer from 2006 to 2020, and he was assigned to the ATD program between 2015 and 2020, according to the US attorney’s office.

The office stated that Golobic had authority over the supervision, monitoring, and movement of ATD participants, as well as the discretion to recommend detention or deportation for program violations.

According to the report, Golobic lied to investigators, destroyed evidence, and tampered with witnesses in order to conceal his crimes.

According to the United States Attorney’s Office, after being approached by FBI and Department of Homeland Security agents in June 2020, Golobic deleted evidence from his cellphone.
