Flash Flood Warning Issued for Southeastern Missouri Counties Until Early Saturday

Springfield, MO – A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for southeastern Howell and Oregon Counties in south central Missouri. The warning will remain in effect until 2:45 a.m. CDT on Saturday, April 5, 2025.

At 6:52 PM CDT Friday, the National Weather Service reported that heavy thunderstorms had dumped 1.5 to 4 inches of rain across the warned area, with more rain expected.

Some areas could receive an additional 1.5 to 4 inches of rain in the coming hours. Radar indicates that flash flooding is either occurring or is about to begin.

Hazards include life-threatening flash flooding in creeks, streams, urban areas, highways, and underpasses.

Residents of Thayer, Alton, Koshkonong, Brandsville, Thomasville, Couch, Rover, and Greer should take immediate precautions.

Specific low water crossings, such as Piney Creek at County Road 228 and Spring River at Highway 142, are particularly vulnerable to flooding.

Authorities warn residents to avoid flooded roads, especially at night, when it is more difficult to assess flood risks. Those who live in hilly areas should be aware of the numerous potentially dangerous low-water crossings.

According to radar data, rainfall rates could reach up to 2 inches per hour, increasing the risk of flash flooding in the affected areas.
