FDA Issues Alert Level in Four States Regarding Mustard Recall Update

Federal officials have revised the classification of an existing recall of two mustard brands after a key ingredient tested positive for salmonella.

The recall, which was first issued on December 17, 2024, affects Keith Valley mustard, which is distributed by Ben E. Keith Foods in Fort Worth, Texas, and Red Boy mustard, which is distributed by Clements Foods in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, according to an enforcement report from the United States Food and Drug Administration.

On January 30, 2025, the FDA designated this as a Class III recall, indicating that the contaminated product is unlikely to cause serious health consequences.

Salmonella infection, on the other hand, can be deadly, particularly for young children, the elderly, and those with weakened immune systems.

Why It Matters

The recall raises concerns about food safety. While mustard is not usually associated with salmonella outbreaks, the recall emphasizes the possibility of contamination in processed foods.

Which States Are Affected by the Recall?

The recall includes mustard products distributed in Kansas, Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

Customers in these states should check their mustard and follow recall instructions.

What to Know

The FDA has issued a recall for 96 cases of Keith Valley mustard and 864 cases of Red Boy mustard after mustard seeds in the products tested positive for bacteria.

960 cases of mustard have been recalled.

The recalled products include:
