Christina Corpus, the sheriff of San Mateo County, is speaking out after being criticised by the county government and several unions.
“I’m not going to let people who are unhappy with themselves tear me down,” she stated. “I’m strong. I was brave enough to run against my boss, and I fought hard.
Corpus’s words come a little more than a week after she said she would file a formal complaint against Mike Callagy, the county executive, for what she calls bullying.
In that report, Corpus asked the Board of Supervisors to look into Callagy, saying that he had made it harder for her to do her job as sheriff several times since she started in 2023.
Corpus’s claims against Callagy came at a time when things were getting worse between her Chief of Staff, union members, and herself. The board of Supervisors in the county has also looked into the Sheriff’s Office.
Victor Aenlle is the Chief of Staff for Corpus Christi. Early last month, the Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the Organisation of Sheriff’s Sergeants voted not to trust him. There was a vote of no confidence in Aenlle by the DSA, which passed it 306 to 12.
“The DSA is open to change that helps us do our job of protecting and serving.” The DSA told NBC Bay Area on Friday, “Let’s be clear: our vote of no confidence is against Chief of Staff Victor Aenlle.”
There are important claims of revenge and unfair labour practices that have been brought to the Sheriff’s attention, but she has yet to respond. Here is what you said.
