A Social Security Administration office in the valley could be subject to cost-cutting measures by the Department of Government Efficiency.
According to DOGE’s website, the cut affects a 1,895-square-foot office space and could save taxpayers $16,352. According to the website, the office space’s annual lease cost is $65,406.
DOGE’s website does not specify which of the valley’s three Social Security Administration offices will be affected, or what the move may mean for workers and residents.
Channel 13 interviewed a social security worker who requested anonymity. The individual informed us that the 1,895-square-foot office was most likely connected to the Social Security office in South Buffalo.
The worker stated that the space was only used for social security card appointments and had not been open in about 4 years. The Social Security Administration did not verify the claims.
According to the Social Security Administration’s website, all Nevada offices are open.
As cuts loom for our federal agencies and workforce, some people we spoke with are concerned about the impact these cuts will have on what they describe as an already understaffed agency.
“I waited three hours on the phone. “They need to hire more people with a better attitude and security,” said Dennis Anderson, a Las Vegas local.
“Many people are in need of help and assistance, so hiring more people will be very beneficial to the community,” said Matthew Williams, a Las Vegas resident.
Channel 13 contacted a Social Security Administration spokesperson about the DOGE’s potential changes and the claims of the social security worker.
They said they’d look into it and get back to us as soon as they could.
