Today, Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost released the 2024 Conceal Carry Report, which shows that thousands of people continue to obtain permits to carry concealed handguns.
Ohio’s rules change in June 2022, making it no longer necessary to have a permit to carry a handgun in the state, but the permit and license process remains in place.
Yost reports that county sheriffs will issue 14,440 new licenses and renew 59,112 existing ones in 2024.
The current system requires licenses to be renewed every five years.
A new license costs between $67 and $77 depending on how long you’ve lived in Ohio, with renewals ranging from $50 to $60.
According to Yost’s office, one of the reasons people continue to renew and apply for licenses is reciprocity.
If you have a CCW license from Ohio, it is valid in 40 other states.
