On Tuesday’s episode of NewsNation’s “Cuomo,” Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA) discussed the state’s Medicaid shortfall and claimed that California is “fine.”
However, “The depression in the stock market will hurt California over the next ten years.” Furthermore, the state must provide Medicaid to illegal immigrants “so that we all don’t get infectious diseases.”
Sherman replied, “California is fine. We rely heavily on taxing wealthy people’s capital gains. The stock market depression will have a negative impact on California over the next ten years.
You cannot treat a family by treating only a few members. If you don’t treat COVID in a woman without documents, our children who are US citizens will contract COVID, which will be far worse.
It is simply absurd to portray California as a sinking ship, with undocumented immigrants to blame. California is going to do fine. And we’ll make sure that Californians are healthy.”
He went on to say, “It’s also completely incorrect to claim that every undocumented immigrant receives Medicaid, or Medi-Cal, as it’s known in California. The rules for eligibility do not state that if you are here illegally, you will be given special treatment.
But we do make certain that the people who live in Los Angeles have access to basic health care in order to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.”
