A California father who was found guilty of torture after brutally beating his 4-year-old daughter was sentenced to life in prison.

On November 12, a court found Tekquan Alexander, a 28-year-old aspiring rapper, guilty of torture, assault, and corporal injury to a child.

As a result of the beatings in 2021, his daughter suffered several “catastrophic” injuries and is in a “vegetative” state. According to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office, Alexander punched and beat his daughter with a belt and an amplifier cable after she wet the bed.

At the time, he informed the girl’s mother that she “passed out standing in time-out.”

Alexander will become eligible for parole. The Ventura County District Attorney’s Office confirmed the sentence on December 13, which also happened to be the little girl’s birthday.

Deputy District Attorney Rikole Kelly, who prosecuted the case, stated in a news release that “while no punishment can undo the lifetime of challenges she will face, her family knowing her perpetrator could spend his life behind bars is a small gift of justice.”

According to the release, the victim remains paralyzed and in a vegetative state; she continues to require round-the-clock medical care.

Keyonna Watts, the girl’s mother, shared the tragic story during an appearance on The Shade Room in 2022 to discuss her daughter’s case. She said she first learned about her daughter’s condition from a detective, who told her the child was “bleeding from the brain.”

The DA’s office listed the girl’s injuries from her stay at Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles, which included “a brain injury, subdural haematoma, spinal compression, bone fractures, and countless contusions and abrasions.”

Alexander told her over FaceTime that the girl was in “time-out” because she had wet the bed and had “passed out.”
