People who get SSDI usually get money in their bank accounts four times a year. They are usually sent out for the first time on December 3rd. Then, on the second, third, and fourth Wednesdays in December, there will be three sets of payments.
But on December 25, the Social Security Administration will not send out an SSDI check. Remember that December 25 is the fourth Wednesday of the month, which is when many people who get disability get their monthly payment.
When will Social Security issue the December 25 payment for SSDI?
Good news for people who get SSDI: they will get their money from the government on December 24 instead of December 25. That means Disability Insurance payments will be sent out 24 hours ahead of time.
If an American person or family on SSDI has a low income, this is their lifeline. Christmas is a lovely time of year, but people in the US spend a lot of money during this time.
On December 24, the following will have to be true in order to get Social Security Disability Insurance:
- to be born from 21-31, regardless of the month
- not not be on SSI
- filed and got disability benefits after April 30, 1997
- remain eligible
Why will Social Security send SSDI on December 24?
Because December 25 is a Federal Holiday, the last SSDI payment for 2024 will be sent out 24 hours early. Remember that a lot of Americans will be celebrating Christmas Day at that time.
If a Federal Holiday falls on a Social Security payment date, it is usually sent out the business day before. It doesn’t matter if your payday is on a Saturday or Sunday—it’s still the same.
If someone on SSDI doesn’t get their payment on time, they have to wait three mailing days before they can contact Social Security. It is best for them to first call their bank, and then, after three business days, call SSA if the payment has not yet been sent.
