Hamilton County is Florida’s 15th county, established on December 26, 1827 from a sergeant of Escambia County whom chose its name from the first secretary of Treasury Alexander Hamilton.

 Hamilton county is located in North Central Florida. Jasper is the county seat with neighboring towns of White springs and Jennings. South Georgia forms a northern border. The county (often called a peninsula within a peninsula) it’s separated from the rest of Florida by the Withlacoochee River on the west and the Suwanee River to the east and south. Located in the middle of the county is the Alapaha River, “called the river of sand” , which disappears underground during certain parts of the year leaving a dry, sandy river bed.

To find Hamilton county, find your way to US 41 or US 129. If you don’t see much at first keep looking. Once you adjust your vision and your pace you’ll find several destinations that will help you fill up a day or two, or more.

Located in the historic beautiful White Springs is a canoe outfitter, a old country store that has been turned into a beautiful hardware store filled with antiques and other beautiful treasures, There are a handful of restaurants, as well as Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park. If you look a little closer during your visit you will also find the historic springhouse where much of the county’s history comes from being Florida’s first tourist destination.

The town of Jasper is located in the heart of the county in the tardy appearance shows the pride residents taking their hometown. The city is over 150 years old in the downtown area harkens back to a time when turpentine, farming and railroads were the heart of the economy. This historical area of downtown showcase is beautiful old homes along the former railroad route which is now a city park.

The town of Jennings it’s located on the northern most part of the county. It features more farming and scenic areas such as the beautiful rivers. It holds a few stores and some of the kindest residents. So with all of that being said if you are looking for somewhere that has a full heart, beautiful landscape, Hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing, hunting camping and a little bit of history this just might be the place for you.
