Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas Weather Alert: Flash Flood Warning Issued Until Midnight

A flash flood warning has been issued for parts of southwestern Arkansas, southeastern Oklahoma, and northeastern Texas due to heavy thunderstorms that pose a significant risk of flooding. The warning will be active until midnight CDT tonight.

The National Weather Service reported that thunderstorms produced between 2 and 3 inches of rainfall in the warned area, with more expected.

Flash flooding is already occurring in some areas, with the possibility of more intense flooding in low-lying and poorly drained regions.

Several counties in Arkansas are affected, including Hempstead, Howard, Little River, Miller, and Sevier, as well as parts of southeastern McCurtain County in Oklahoma and Bowie and Red River counties in Texas.

Flash flooding is expected to affect urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses. Texarkana, De Queen, Ashdown, Nashville, New Boston, and Foreman may experience significant flooding.

Motorists are advised not to drive through flooded roads, as vehicles account for the majority of flood-related fatalities.

Residents are advised to “turn around, don’t drown” if they encounter flooded areas.
