Little Rock, AR – A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for parts of north central Arkansas, including Fulton, Izard, and Stone counties, as thunderstorms continue to bring heavy rain.
According to the National Weather Service, 1 to 2 inches of rain have already fallen in the area, primarily west of Salem and Mountain View.
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected, potentially worsening flooding conditions. Flash flooding is either occurring or expected to begin soon, with a warning in effect until 9:45 PM CDT.
The affected areas, which include Cherokee Village, Mountain View, and Ash Flat, are experiencing flash flooding on small creeks, streets, highways, and underpasses.
The highest risk areas are those with poor drainage and low-lying regions. Officials warn residents to avoid flooded roads and to remember the life-saving message, “Turn around, don’t drown.”
Travelers in these counties should use caution because flash flooding can quickly render roads impassable. Keep up with local warnings, as conditions can change quickly.
