Daniel Schwarz, a Texas father, is now facing the consequences of his actions. In 2020, the 48-year-old and his wife Ashley killed their adopted daughter, Jaylin. Five years later, justice is finally served.
According to a Facebook post by the Ector County District Attorney, Schwarz was sentenced to 18 years in prison last week. The Texas father pleaded guilty to manslaughter after his daughter died in a cruel manner. Jaylin died at the age of eight as a result of Mr. Schwarz and his wife’s mistreatment of her.
While Daniel will serve nearly two decades in prison, his wife has been sentenced to life in prison without parole. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice found her guilty of capital murder. The Ector County District Attorney attributed the case’s success to the Odessa police’s hard work.
The Schwarzs’ case began on August 29, 2020, when police responded to a medical emergency at their home. When Odessa police arrived at the couple’s home, they discovered their daughter had died. Further investigations into the case revealed that the 8-year-old had been subjected to inhumane punishment.
The couple forced Jaylin to bounce on a trampoline outside in the scorching heat, with temperatures estimated at 110 degrees. The duo made Jaylin’s condition worse by ensuring she had nothing to eat or drink while jumping on the trampoline for an extended period of time.
Jaylin died of dehydration, according to the autopsy, and her death was classified as a homicide.
Internet Users Want A Heavier Jail Sentence For Daniel Schwarz
Unfortunately, Daniel Schwarz’s sentence has sparked outrage among internet users. Many people felt that the jail sentence was insufficient in light of the gravity of the offense. One user expressed their concern by writing, “This is unacceptable.” He tortured the child. He should have received life without parole.”
Another netizen asked, “Why didn’t he get a life sentence without parole?”. More Facebook users complained that the Texas father’s sentence was unfair. The netizens pointed out that people charged with drugs face longer sentences, so it was unfair that a murder charge resulted in only an 18-year sentence.
A fourth commenter pointed out flaws in the criminal justice system. “Why do people who murder others receive such lenient sentences? They did something permanent; why allow parole?” they inquired.
Another user lamented that justice was not served because the father played a role in the child’s death. The user also suggested that the father be sentenced to life in prison, the same punishment as Jaylin received.
Per People Magazine, the young girl’s obituary described her as “full of life.” She loved horseback riding, ice skating, and all things outdoors. Her other interests include animals, history, and science. May she rest in peace.
