A family was scared and confused Saturday afternoon when they heard a loud bang at their door.

Dan Smith stated that he was sitting on the couch Saturday when a group of juveniles ran to their Warren Street home.

One kicked the door, and another ripped down their pride flag.

News Center 7 contacted the Germantown Police Department, which stated that the Smith family reported the incident but decided not to press charges.

Smith stated that he decided to show compassion.

“Even a juvenile record has the potential to lead to worse. We’ve all been children. “We’ve all done stupid things before,” Smith admitted.

He claims his family has lived here for a year and has never had a problem with neighbors, but a line must be drawn when it comes to his property.

“It’s the understanding what happens when you propagate hate,” Mr. Smith said.

Aside from not spreading hatred, Smith stated that he wants all young people to understand the dangers that can occur when they do something like this.

“If you try to kick in a door, you could get shot … then you have a whole different situation,” he informed me.

Germantown police said they would increase patrols in the area.
