A 17-year-old is charged in a tragic crash that killed one person and injured two more

A 17-year-old “delinquent child” faces charges for allegedly recklessly killing an elderly man and injuring two others in a car accident.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Hamilton County Juvenile Court, Donald Auel Jr. recklessly caused the death of an 85-year-old man on Sept. 27 after police said he ran a red light and collided with the elderly man’s vehicle, causing it to careen into the building.

The crash also injured the 46-year-old driver who was in the same vehicle as the 85-year-old, as well as Auel’s 17-year-old passenger. Police said neither teen was wearing a seatbelt.

According to the complaint, Auel “appears to be a delinquent child.” The charges against him include aggravated vehicular manslaughter and two counts of vehicular assault.

None of the victims’ identities were released by authorities.
