SSI amounts for monthly payment on Black Friday – Checks include the 2025 COLA increase?

Supplemental Security Income is paid to about 7.5 million Americans. Low-income families can get SSI, and their checks usually come on the first of the month. So, you might be shocked when you get your first check or direct deposit on November 29, 2024, Black Friday. It’s easy to understand why Social Security chose Black Friday for this Federal payment.

The date that Social Security was supposed to set was December 1. Still, it’s Sunday, and the Agency doesn’t send or deposit checks on the weekend. Because of this, SSA sends the monthly SSI payment the day before the next business day. This means that its offices are open, as are banks.

To get the 2.5% increase, everyone who gets SSI will have to wait until their monthly payment on December 31, 2024. When the COLA increase starts to take effect, the most a person can get will be $967.
