Police say a woman was arrested in Middletown late Wednesday night after they say she stabbed her mother.
At 11:34 p.m. Wednesday, Middletown police were called to the 600 block of 14th Avenue for a report of a stabbing.
The police say they found a woman who had been stabbed several times. 72-year-old Minnie Lewis was identified as the victim. She was taken to the Atrium Medical Center, where she later died.
Mekeshia Lattimore, her 44-year-old daughter, was arrested and charged with murder, according to the police.
Police said Mekeshia was on top of the victim, who was her mother, while her mother was sitting in a recliner, according to court documents.
Another family member is said to have yelled at her to leave, which is when the stab wounds were found.
Neighbors told WLWT that Lewis was a nice woman who loved God.
She was a really nice person. She was kind. Officer Doris Williams, who lives next door, said, “I can’t help but cry. I can’t believe she’s gone.” “I’m really going to miss her.”
People in Lattimore’s neighborhood said she did have mental health problems but never would have thought she would hurt her mother.
“What made her snap, I don’t know?” Williams said.
