COLUMBUS, Ohio — About 100 Ohio Army National Guard members deployed to the United States Central Command’s area of responsibility on Sunday to support Operation Spartan Shield.
On Sunday afternoon, the public attended a call to duty ceremony at Dublin Coffman High School to honour the members’ deployments.
The 16th Engineer Brigade, based in Columbus, “will provide supervisory oversight for subordinate engineer units throughout the CENTCOM area of responsibility,” according to the Ohio Army National Guard.
According to the United States Army Central, Operation Spartan Shield aims to strengthen defence relationships by maintaining a US military posture in South-west Asia.
The operation is overseen by Task Force Spartan, which consists of active Army and National Guard units, as well as US Army Reserve support units.
The units were previously deployed in 2005–2006, 2009–2010, and 2020–21.
